Choicer Voicer Voice Packs Explained

"Voice pack" and "dub pack" get used interchangeably in Choicer Voicer communities, but they point at different things. Knowing which one you actually want saves a lot of searching.

Dub pack vs. voice pack

• A dub pack is a scene to perform: a clip, line timings and a character list. It is the input to the game.
• A voice pack is a set of voices: either recorded performances of a scene, or a collection of character voices you can reuse. It is closer to an output, or a set of reference reads.

When people search for "Choicer Voicer voice packs" they usually mean one of three things:

1. New scenes to play (they actually want dub packs).
2. Reference voices for characters in a scene.
3. Other people's recorded dubs to listen to.

How voices work on this site

Every character in a scene has a reference voice profile: a pitch, a rate and a voice type. When you press Start, the reference read for each line is synthesised in your browser using those settings, so a deadpan ship AI sounds different from a panicking barista without shipping any audio files.

During the final playback, lines you did not perform are read by the same reference voice, so a two-character scene still works when you only voice one part.

Reusing your own performances

Right now your recordings live only in your browser for the current session. Saving takes as a reusable voice pack, and sharing recorded dubs publicly, are planned for a later release once creator accounts exist. Until then, the shareable artefact is your score link.

Choosing scenes by voice

If your goal is to practise a particular type of voice, filter the dub pack directory by show:

• Galaxy Patrol for robotic, flat delivery against a stressed commander.
• Noir Nights for slow, low, dramatic reads.
• Kitchen Catastrophe for shouted, high-energy comedy.
• Quest of the Mildly Brave for big fantasy voices.
