How to Play Choicer Voicer – Beginner Guide
A step-by-step beginner guide to playing Choicer Voicer: choosing a scene, recording lines on the countdown, retrying takes, and how the score works. No experience needed.

Choicer Voicer is easy to pick up because you only ever deal with one line at a time. This guide walks through a full round from choosing a scene to hearing the final dub, and explains what the score actually measures.
Before you start
- Use headphones if you can. The reference read and your own voice come out of the same speaker; headphones stop the reference leaking into your recording.
- Quiet room, normal distance. Ten to twenty centimetres from a laptop or phone mic is fine. You do not need to shout into it.
- Allow the microphone once. Your browser asks for permission the first time you press Start. If you accidentally block it, follow Microphone Not Working.
Step 1: Choose a scene
Open the dub pack directory and pick something short. Each card shows the number of characters, lines and the total length. For a first game choose:
- Easy difficulty
- 2 characters
- Under 30 seconds
Step 2: Mic check
After you allow the microphone, the game shows a level meter. Say a sentence at the volume you plan to perform at. If the bars barely move, move closer. If they hit the red segments, back off. Press Sounds good to continue.
Step 3: Pick your part
You can voice one character or all of them. Playing all characters is the classic solo experience. Playing one character is great with a friend: pass the device after each line, or take turns on the same scene.
Lines for characters you did not pick are read by the reference voice during the final playback, so the scene still makes sense.
Step 4: The recording loop
For every line you'll see the same sequence:
- Listen – the reference voice reads the caption so you hear the pacing.
- 3-2-1 – a three second countdown.
- Record – the red indicator appears and the timer bar fills. Deliver the line. Recording stops automatically shortly after the line's target length, or press Done early.
- Review – your take plays back with a waveform. Press Retry to record it again or Accept to move on.
There is no limit on retries.
Step 5: The final dub
After the last line is accepted, the scene plays from the top. Your takes are placed exactly where the original lines fall on the timeline, with a light background ambience underneath. When it finishes, you get your score.
How scoring works
The score is an entertainment score, not a measure of how much you sound like a real actor. Three things are measured directly from your recordings:
| Component | What it measures | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Timing | Did you start promptly after the countdown, and did your take last roughly as long as the line? | 45% |
| Energy | Was your level healthy (not whispering, not clipping) and did your delivery have dynamics rather than a flat monotone? | 25% |
| Completion | How many of your lines were recorded? | 20% |
A pitch component is reserved for a future version and does not count yet. Everything is computed on your device.
Tips for a higher score
- Start speaking right as the countdown hits zero. Hesitating a second costs timing points.
- Match the line length. If a line is three seconds, do not stretch it to six.
- Vary your delivery. Emphasis and pauses raise the energy score more than pure volume.
- Read the direction note under the line. It tells you the intended tone.
Playing with friends
Choicer Voicer is best as a party game. Two formats work well in the browser:
- Pass-and-play: one device, one scene, each person takes a character.
- Same scene, separate devices: everyone plays the same scene on their own phone and shares the score link afterwards.
